Alleged Owners name is Mike They did improper graphics layout and refuse to fix their mistake without charging a fee

I went to these guys one month ago for some business cards, I was happy with the results and went back last week to get some postcards done.

I went in there and chose a format that they do, referring to one they have under glass right on the reception / work order desk.

It is 4"x6" card with a picture image set into a border that is roughly 1/4" from the top and sides of the picture with around a 1" border across the bottom of the picture with clients information; Name - phone number and e-mail.

I gave them a digital image of my 8.5"x11" composite to be reduced and located into that bordered area, as per the format that they display.

I also gave them the card that they made last month as a reference to follow, as it was even though smaller in size it is the same type of layout format I wanted, as well it had the information to copy to the new postcard.

When I returned to pick up the postcards, payed the remainder of the order ($33.00) I did make the mistake of not closely looking at the postcards until I got to my car.

The format was very wrong, it was 1" from the top of the card, 1/4" from the sides and 1" from the bottom, without centering the type as indicated.

Format called for 1/4" from top and sides w / 1" or so from bottom of picture to bottom edge of card.

When I came back to show them immediately I was told it was what I asked for, after that I was told that I needed to talk to the owner "Mike", he was not there, so I had to go back later that after

When I met with "Mike" he told me it was fine and did not need to be changed.

I showed him exactly the format on the counter that I had picked and also showed him the card that was left with them to follow, and again was told there was no problem, but if I wanted to change it I had to pay $15.00 set up fee.

I pointed out that they had done it wrong and I should not have to pay for their mistake.

Again he said that is how it needed to be fit in the format as it was taken from an 8.5"x11" format and it was the only way to fit it in the format they gave me.

They reduce 8.5"x11" and fit to a variety of formats daily, it is the prime propose of what they do for actors etc...

At this point I told them that professionally I am a Graphic Artist and Designer and am aware that he can reduce an image regardless of size and fit it to that format or any other format desired, IE. Sideways upside down etc...

Then he tried to tell me it was my image that was wrong even after I told him I too am professional at graphics, and if I reformatted it he would print it for no cost.

The point is that it is already formatted and they have been payed to reduce and fit it, that was why I took it to them, also I do not posses the type font they were to use.

I had to take the cards as is and have no other recourse than to pay a fee for their mistake, or to use the postcards that now do not match the other graphics that I have.

I will not pay a fee for the mistake they made, nor will I reformat it as that is what they were payed to do.

As a Designer, if I make a mistake I never pass it on to a client I must eat the cost of fixing it, I only charge for extras if they make changes after the fact and that is what he is trying to say I am doing.

They made the postcards wrong!
