Yesterday a couple of fresh-out-of-high school guys come to my door. I work third shift and should have never gotten out of bed to answer their incessent knocking! I was suckered into buying the most expensive magazine subscribtion ever! After having second thoughts I read the back of the order form and it reads... You may cancel this transaction within three business days from the above date. To cancel this transaction, mail or deliver a signed and dated copy of this cancellation notice or send a telegram to Palmetto Marketing Inc. # %. There is no phone number, no e-mail address, and vital information is missing in order to cancel! And there is no way that I can get this letter from Michigan to Florida in 2 days! I then turn the page over and see that the sneaky seller has written the wrong date on the front of the receipt, so now I actually have 1 day to cancel!

So I decide to do a little research on the internet. Nothing comes up but tons of complaints about Palmetto Marketing! I read a complaint that really creeps me out because it is the exact thing that happened to me 2 states away from the writer of the complaint!

The boys say they are just a couple of subscriptions away from winning a trip to Cancun. They ask for a glass of water claiming to be exhausted from walking in the heat. If they could just get me to buy 3 subscriptions they would definately win. I tell them that maybe I could spring for one but the guys say they have to at least sell 2 or only one would get to go to Cancun and they are best friends and inseperable! I resist and resist telling them that $30 per magazine is way too expensive. They get a little creative and tell me they are with some "eloquent speakers of America" and they are preparing and learning about self esteem for college. They say they automatically hold the check for 2 weeks. So I reluctantly buy 2 magazines and it comes to a total of $80.00. Does 30 30 add up to 80 to you? There is a $10 processing fee per magazine. Then the ballzy guys ask for a tip. Then they write "bug off losers Eldon is the best" on a peice of paper to "scare away the competition."

After they leave I am staring at my receipt with regret that I just blew so much of my hard earned money and I read..."No verbal agreements recognized. No postdated checks accepted. No checks will be held. Allow 90 to 120 days for delivery. We are not affiliated with any local High School or College."

Why those sneaky little...! Excuse me, I have to go call my bank and spend $15 to stop my check! Immediatly!
