Not What It Seems attempted to charge more tried to push blame on us for sales reps miscalculation

We recently moved and because the move was 3 states away and we have 2 kids and no helpers, we hired a moving company. I packed everything myself. I kept a log of boxes and gave each box a number, which the driver noticed by the way.

We were given a quote that was the max estimate; it couldn't go over that. We thought we were pretty safe. But! When the sales rep underestimated our lot by almost 1/2, we were told (in varying terms) that we had an undisclosed storage container that was not calculated (NOT true!) and had somehow tried to fool the movers.

They wanted to charge us an additional $700 to move items in the house. When we refused, they said they could just leave them in the driveway. They did and we ended up having to move nearly everything inside.

They damaged many of our wooden furniture pieces.in one case, they tried to hide it. Claims have been slow and not satisfactory.

The driver told us if he had known how much extra it would have weighed, he would have driven off and not loaded us to begin with. Had they driven off, we would have been stuck because to try and get a uhaul and arrange moving would have been impossible.

The sales rep failed to take into consideration how much our pieces of furniture weighed! Instead, they tried to call us liars and cheats.

So, point to the story is that you cannot trust the sales reps even with a "guaranteed" quote.

We will move ourselves from now on, which is what we should have done to begin with. Unless you are not paying for the move or don't care about your belongings, never trust a moving company - no matter how good they seem or how good their rating appears to be!
