On 12/21/09, I purchased a single earring for my boyfriend from Kevin Jeweler's in West Covina, CA. The assistant store manager named Iris stated the earring is white gold setting and three-quarters of a carat. On christmas, I gave my boyfriend the earring. The next day he calls me and asks me if the earring is real. I replied, "of course it is! I paid approximately $500 for just that one earring!" He then tells me that his ear is possibly be infected. That he had to remove the earring because the ear-lobe was red, tender, and some fluid was coming out.

I immediately called the store and spoke with Iris and notified them of this. They didnt understand why this would happen. They asked if he was allergic to white gold, and I said "no, he only wears white gold earrings and this new one I purchased is just a slightly bigger diamond." They also asked if he cleaned the earring before wearing it. The answer was "yes." They then tell me that i had two options 1) return the earring so they can order me a new one, or 2) come back and see if i would like to exchange the earring with something else. I agreed. I would much rather have gotten a refund, but as it clearly states on the receipt: exchanges only.

A few days later, I returned to the store and spoke with Iris and another worker named Van. This time around Van assisted me with possibly looking for another earring. Only problem was, they didnt have a great selection of three-quarters of carat earrings. The price was either much much lower than i originally paid for and was lower quality, or it was much higher. She also informed me that the one single earring isn't three-quarters of a carat. Buying the PAIR would equal three-quarters of a carat. Van then gave me another option, which was to just have the setting replaced. I asked if this can be done that day, and she said "no, the jeweler only comes in twice a week." I wasnt too pleased with the answer so I asked if I can just go to another Kevin Jeweler's and have the earring exchanged there. They said I could do that too. So Van and I agreed to just order the earring and that I can pick up the earring on thursday, 12/31/09, and If I've found an exchange through the other store, I would just call and cancel the order. I then drove to the Montclair Mall and explained the situation, which the sales rep did NOT understand. I then said, Im willing to pay a small price differential if I can just get another earring. The rep said they didnt do "break-ups of earring" which didnt make any sense since the other store sold me just ONE earring. They asked if i wanted to "upgrade the earring, " I kept saying "NO, i want to exchange it because it got my boyfriend's ear infected." They called their manager, and asked me to come back the next day, and I refused saying, "Ill just wait until thursday to pick up the one I've ordered."

Thursday comes, and I called Iris saying that I couldnt pick up the new earring that day because I had to work, and that I'll just pick it up on Saturday (01/02/10). She said "Okay, it'll be here for you on Saturday." Saturday comes and I drive to the mall, this time with my sisters and my mother, Iris wasnt there. Van was there and I walked in and asked to pick up my earring. She then said that "it's taking longer than expected." I replied, "what do you mean?! I called Iris on thursday and she said it was here and all I had to do was pick it up today!" She reiterated her same response. What was I supposed to do next? I started looking for another earring to see if i could just replace the old one and be done with it. They were the same earrings from before. Price was too low, or too high. The diamonds were more cloudy, etc. Van then said the only thing I can do now is to just have the setting replaced. I finally agreed, and asked if this can be done now. She again explained that the jeweler only comes in twice a week, and next he's be in is Wednesday 01/06/10. I left the earring with them this time, and all I can do now is wait some more and make another return trip.

I did NOT purchase an earring to give as a christmas gift only to be inconvenienced by it. I did not pay $500 dollars, only to have to return multiple times and be given the run-around. This is just ridiculous. I will contact their corporate office and file this complaint. I will also file with BBB if I have to.

I ordered a pair of diamond earrings and only got one. The other two sets were not good quality. They don't even shine. I am waiting to see if they send the other earring. I have emailed them twice now
