High Beam Research
Some refer to it as "Hi Beam Research" Renewal scam — they hit my account when I did not intend to renew for $299.95 and then announced I was canceled effective immediately, but they were still keeping the $299.95! Internet

Shops, Products, Services

Checking my online banking today, I was shocked to see a withdrawal of $299.95 for Hi Beam Research. I had no intention of renewing this and I had not authorized a renewal.

I called their number and waited on hold for nearly half an hour while a recorded message played encouraging me to leave a call back number to keep my place in line. A woman finally took the call. I told her this had been happened and she told me there was "an automatic renewal" until I canceled. When I attempted a use of it a couple of weeks ago, there was a message that I would have to update credit card information. How they got the information, I'll never know. I use it seldom and could obtain the information easily from other sources with less hassle. I told the woman I wished to cancel and she said, "fine, you are canceled effective today." I then said, I want the money back you grabbed from my account for the next year of use. She told me I could not have it back as I had allegedly consented to it in past. My former subscription prices were nowhere near $299.95 for a year. She was quite unpleasant and said she would have somebody call me tomorrow and see if they would make an exception. Both the legality and the ethics of their practice are highly suspect. They now have my money. If I wanted to use the service I have no access to it. They need to be shut down and/or have a class action lawyer take profitable action against them!
