ESBI Third party phone cramming charges for services not provided or agreed to.internet

I opened my business telephone bill and examined the charges as the bill was unusually high. To my surprise a company by the name of Ambonet.com was going through a 3rd party billing service ESBI and had added $29.95 to my bill twice.

This showed up in July for the months of May and June (09). I called the 888 number shown on the phone bill listed to contact Ambonet. These charges were for Webhosting Services. Now, I do not have a PC at my little one person beauty salon, nor do I have a Website for my business. I never agreed to any such service and I habitually say "No Thankyou" to any unknown party and hang up promptly. I have zero idea who this company is and how they were able to charge me. It is called "cramming" and supposedly it's happening a lot right now.

The customer service person at Ambonet.com told me he would remove those charges from my phone bill. He also told me there would be another charge on the next bill, he was right. I got the bill yesterday and another charge for the month of July was there. I got a Confirmation no. From Ambonet and promptly called Embarq which is my local service provider. Embarq said they would make a note that the charges are in dispute. Of course I now have an amount owed immediately of $58.24 and I'm sure I will have to end up paying it before this whole thing is settled so I don't get my business service interrupted.

I can only wonder how many people do not read the itemized breakdown on their bill and end up just paying bogus charges. I am wondering if anyone else has had a brush with Ambonet.com and how you handled it.
