Huge scam - promised to settle my debts for 50% or less and did nothing but take my money

Shops, Products, Services

The nightmare started in may when I was trying to find a better way out of debt than bankruptcy. I had got in to debt over my head, and then work slowed way down and the economy started to fall apart.

I started to look at debt settlement companies, and I decided that Allegro Law might work. When I talked with them, they said they could get rid of between 40-60% of my debt. They said all I had to do was set up a monthly payment which would go to an escrow account towards my creditors.

I originally talked to a man named Vincent who was really nice and made big promises. We set up the payment amount at 419.00 per month (which actually turned out to be 352.00). He said that in roughly 4 years, everything would be paid off, and that this is much better than bankruptcy.

He said that once I paid the upfront fee of 650.00, that I should stop paying my creditors and let the company take care of the rest. Right away, I asked him why my creditors would not try to take me to court. He promised me that no judge would ever rule against me if I was making regular monthly payments to Allegro, and that it would be a waste of time for the creditors. He said that it rarely happens.

Well, needless to say, the creditors continued to call me and I kept directing them to Allegro as I was told, and I was not paying the creditors. The only time I ever even heard from Allegro in the next 10 months, was when I called them.

Then in December I started to get summoned to appear in court by 3 of my creditors, one after the other. When I called Allegro, they said I was pretty much on my own. When I did call the creditors earlier, they said they would not negotiate with Allegro.

Now the creditors wanted to garnish my wages and set up other payment arrangements for the full amounts plus fee/penalties. When I talked to Allegro, after numerous calls, they finally had a "consultant" talk to me and more or less tell me that maybe bankruptcy was an option.

The reason I went with these idiots/scam artists, was to avoid bankruptcy. Well, to make a long story short, I finally had to file bankruptcy as a last resort in May. When I called Allegro about this I told them I wanted a refund since they did not do anything. They said that everything I had paid in so far (about 4,100) was towards their fees, and they could only refund me about 230.00. Please help me fight this jerks and get my money back. They should not get away with ripping people off.
