Millennium Research
Soliciting a Customer Service Evaluator and asking me to deposit a check before completing a Mystery Shop

Shops, Products, Services

I received a white envelop in the mail, addressed to me and without return address. The stamp on the envelop was from Canada.

Upon opening the envelop I discovered a letter, an application, and a check for the amount of $2,987.75. The check was made out to me, from Melrose International, LLC located in Quincy, IL. The bank on the check was First Bankers Trust Company, NA. Located in Quincy, IL. (This was my first alert that something might not be right. The check is from a U.S. State but it was mailed from Canada?)

The letter was printed on what appeared to be letterhead for Millennium Research Inc. And gave the address, phone, and fax for the company. The content of the letter indicated that I had been identified as a "candidate interested in an additional income part-time job." It stated that the company was a mystery shopping industry company, and the letter was meant to be an offer for a mystery shopping job. It included the pay for this particular assignment, and indicated a raise in pay for future assignments upon the completion of this assignment.

The assignment was to be completed in two locations. I was to deposit the check then take the required amount of money ($2417.00) to Western Union to send to a training coordinator. Then, I was to spend $190 at either Home Depot, Gap, Jc Penny, Macy's, K-Mart, or Sears as the second shop. I would be allowed to keep what I purchased, but would be required to fax in the receipts as completion of the shop. I was also to fax in the completed Acceptance Form and Market Report Sheet.

If one reads the letter closely, there are distinct errors in the letter, most grammatical, but overall it appears professional.
