Reader's Digest
Lotto Winnings Scam

Shops, Products, Services

I recently received a letter in the mail from Reader's Digest congratulating me on my winnings of $242,000. It included a check from Alternative Palco (AAPD) in the amount of $4,815.00, which they claimed was part of my winnings made available to pay insurance and processing charges on my winnings. The letter further stated to contact James Owen at 778-585-3390 upon receiving this check, before I deposit it into my bank account. This letter even went so far as to include a picture of the alleged Thomas D. Williams, Chief financial officer.

Of course, with all the fraud going on in this economic crisis, I was completely skeptical. I showed my mother and father, and they felt the same way. My first instinct was to look on the internet to research this drawing to see if it was legit. I am extremely glad I decided to do so. Many others have received a similar letter, with a similar check, placed in an envelope without a return address. I was even given a reference number like everyone else.

My plan is to bring it into the bank tomorrow to seek their advice on this matter. I don't want to be naive, but could it be real? I don't understand how fraud like this can occur. How can people get away with this? The check looks so real! What happens to those individuals who cash the check? Also, since they mailed me this letter, does this mean that they have confidential information on me already? Whatever the case, I want to help in whatever way I can to catch the people in charge of this horrible scam! Whatever I can do, PLEASE, LET ME KNOW! This scam is just cruel... I really needed this money, as I'm sure everyone else does!
