Poor Quality Diamonds at a grossly inflated price

I purchased a Diamond Ring set (Engagement ring and band to go with it) for $2000 from this company. The price was marked $3750 but Al told me since he had known me since I was a little kid, and since I was a paramedic, he would sell it to me for $2k. He told me he had $2000 in the ring and would sell it to me for that since he had had it on display for 2 years. He told me the quality of the ring was a VS1.

I have asked for an appraisal of the ring from no less than three times, and have yet to get it. About 11 months after I bought the ring, the stone fell out of the holder. We took it back and had it reset. His sister, who is his partner, told us that it had a scratch on the diamond. Less than a year later, we took it to have it cleaned. Al told me that it was chipped and cracked. He then said the stone was an SI1. He told me that it "was a very high quality stone, and in 2005 I paid $2000 for that same bridal set".

I had the ring appraised, and was told it was worth no more than $1200-$1500 at best before the scratch. Al told me that he could get me another stone for $750, when the worth of the stone was set at $700 retail value. Al said the $750 was his cost, and that he would charge me another $100 to set it back in.

He never once tried to make things right with me, and I bought my wedding band from him, and it has torn up. Luckily, it has a lifetime warranty on it. I would never do business with them again, even if they were the only jewelry store in Georgia.
