Prestigio Jewelers
Violated Fair Debt Collection Practices Act

Shops, Products, Services

I have an account at Prestigio Jewelers. I bought my fiancee's engagement ring there. Back in December of I had informed my usual salesperson that I was going to be switching jobs and that my payment for January would be late. She said everything was fine, it wouldn't be a big deal, there wouldn't be a late fee since I showed her paperwork from my new employer.

January comes and not seven days after my payment was due, my fiancee started receiving phone calls on Prestigio. They called her almost everyday throughout the month of January, even though I had given them plenty of notice that I would be late. Eleven days after my payment was due, two of their employees came to my place of residence to drop off a letter demanding payment.

I get in touch with one of the salespeople there, Victor, on the 28th of January. I was told that if I wrote them a postdated check, dated for when I got paid, everything would be okay and we'd move on from there. I went in to their store on the 31st of January and dropped off a postdated check at their request for February 6th. I was told by two separate salespeople, Victor and the store manager, that the check would not clear until the 6th. On the 4th of February, the check cleared my account and, since I didn't have the funds just yet, bounced.

I found out about this on February 5th. My fiancee called Victor while I was at work and was prompty hung up on after inquiring as to why they deposited the check earlier than they said they would. I also tried getting in contact with Victor, and was also rejected. I am now receiving phone calls from a "Small Claims" representative from someone in the 209 area code. I plan to call her tomorrow and give her a piece of my mind about their terrible customer service, but also about Articles 2.5,2.6, and 2.13 of California's Fair Debt Collection Practices Statutes.

Do not give these people business. They are not only sharks, but they are liars.
