Distruaght Candidate over Unfiar Treatment

I was interviewing with Yesmail for a Associate Account Manager position. I went in for 2 interviews, and was given the position. However, I did not accept right away and asked the hiring manager, Paul Tenney, a week to decide because I was debating between this position and another one that I had received.

After a week, I decided to accept Yesmail's offer and told Paul that I would take it. He emailed me and also told me over the phone that he was going to extend the offer to me and was going to send over the offer letter soon. He also said that I would be starting the new job in a week or two. I declined the other offer and was looking forward to start working at Yesmail.

A week passed, then two and finally three when I had not received an offer letter. I wrote numerous emails to Paul and left several voice messages. He never returned any of them. Finally, on the third week, I caught him on the phone at 8:30 AM. When I asked him the status of the offer letter, he said that the company was having budget issues and did not know if they would even hire anymore. He said that he would send me an email later with all the details. I never received that email.

I am very disappointed with this company and Paul Tenney, and extremely frustrated with the situation. I understand that in this economy, things do come up. However, it is the hiring manager's responsibility to keep me updated and to not keep me hanging. I also refused my other offer, thus resulting in a loss of income and a career.
