Run Away Wedding Planner - Took the Money & Ran

On October 15- after having been submitted full payment - [Kevin Lumley] notified me that he would not be attending or coordinating our wedding, which was now only two days away

I regret having to write to you about an egregiously deplorable experience I've had with a vendor.

On October 18 I hosted my wedding in Charleston, South Carolina. Though my husband and I don't have any roots in Charleston, we were completely enamored with the beauty and hospitality of the city and thrilled that Charleston was to provide the landscape for our nuptials. We hired a local wedding planner, Kevin Lumley with Lumley & Lloyd Wedding Artistry. I was very excited about the opportunity to host one of the most important days in our lives in Charleston and felt comforted in my decision to work with a seemingly highly-respected planner that was familiar with the Charleston area and could manage the majority of the logistical planning for our wedding.

Unfortunately, our experience with Kevin Lumley proved disastrous beginning midway through the wedding planning.

We had major communication issues and often time's experienced week-long lapses before getting responses to important, time sensitive questions.
Often I had to personally communicate with the vendors on issues that were supposed to be under Kevin's management. Vendors even told me that they have never worked with a bride as much as they had to work with me in situations where a wedding planner had been hired.
Kevin was incredibly uninvolved with the logistical details of the wedding and I had to personally tend to a great majority of his contractual responsibilities including but not limited to all aspects of catering, dcor, logistical timeline with photographer, DJ, ect.

Despite all these encounters we decided to continue to work with Kevin because by then we had already invested too much money and time in him and were primarily looking for his guidance for onsite coordination that was to be given leading up to and on the actual wedding date.

By October 13 we had paid Kevin over $3000 with only a remainder of $200 left to pay on our bill. We submitted the remaining balance of $200.00 by his due date of October 14. On October 15- after having been submitted full payment - [Kevin Lumley] notified me that he would not be attending or coordinating our wedding, which was now only two days away. What was even worst about this is that he didn't even reach out to us personally and explain any special circumstance or personal issues. He sent an email address to our vendors (with us cc'd) stating that all communication should go directly to us as he wouldn't be coordinating the wedding.

As you can only imagine, we were in complete disbelief, as we couldn't understand why he was doing this only two days before our wedding. We tried calling and emailing him numerous times, but to no avail. We scrambled at the last minute to pull everything together and incurred additional costs due to his failure to perform his contractual obligations. I was extremely devastated by his actions and awed by his willful lack of professionalism. My wedding was suppose to be filled with happy memories but instead, all my memories are of extreme anxiety and stress over unaccounted for details leading up to what was supposed to be one of the best days of my life.

Though I am seeking legal action and filed complaints with different consumer agencies, I write this letter with the sincere hopes that no other bride and groom have to go through the devastating sequence of events that were imposed upon my husband and me —Kevin Lumley completely and maliciously, ruined our wedding experience.
