American Publications Scam. Send in $40 and nothing. Had enough economic problems as is, now even worse

I saw an ad in the newspaper and noticed I can make some money. I am having some economic rough times and saw a shine of hope. So I sent in money and hoping that it will be my economic savior. Weeks went by and nothing. My problem have become worse and because of this work at home scam I going through a serious amount of stress. Those $40 I sent was of the very little I had.
