Rip-off

I was looking on the internet for a debt consolidation company to consolidate some credit cards. I was told to sign a contract and give them a first payment. Then I find out the company keeps the first payment which I was not told on the phone. They then tell me the second payment was sent to the creditors as explained. The checks they sent to the creditors BOUNCED. I have not been able to get through tp this company since. The lines are constantly busy. Please help!!
