Omega Van Lines advertises itself as employing professional movers who will make sure that everything will be packed the right way so at the end of the move the customer's belongings will arrive in excellent condition.

Once the movers arrived at my home, they said that my job was bigger than they had anticipated and that they would have to call in additional movers. I did not understand how that could have happened since I had gone over the list of items with their receptionist much earlier. Once the move started, the additional movers broke a desk, a lamp and a picture frame. Omega boxes items. On the box, the room to which the box is to be taken is to be written as well as the contents of the box. My move was large. It took months to unpack because the additional movers were really illegal immigrants which Omega got from Casa De Maryland, an immigrant labor center. Those individuals could neither read nor write English. Hence they could not label the boxes.

I paid for a professional move. Because these people were not professionals, they broke and damaged several items including destroying an irreplaceable minature antique. If I were not concerned about my belongings, I could have gotten unskilled laborers myself to do the move. I did not get what I paid for. I sued Omega arguing breach of contract. The court rejected my arguments. I am telling my story in the hopes it will help others. Omega is a horrible moving company. They should not be used.
