Move AAA
Dishonest, hidden fees, last minute changes

Shops, Products, Services

I began preparing for my move 10 weeks in advance, beginning with estimates from movers. I had set up with another company when Mike from Move AAA (ext. 301) called with a much lower estimate and told me he would even reimburse my deposit with the original company. I was convinced!

Over the next few weeks, my contract wasn't coming in the mail and I had to call Mike several times to ask if it had been sent. After 5 weeks (and 5 phone calls), it was finally emailed to me and I dropped it in the mail immediately. Two weeks before pick up, I called the main line to ask about packing materials, the woman who answered pulled up my account to help me figure out what materials I might need from them and I mentioned "It looks like I'm going to have less than my estimated 30 boxes, will that change anything?" she told me i would get money off but to call back after everything was packed up.

When I called back a week later with my final box count, the Friday before my scheduled Monday pick up, Mike told me he only had me set up for 5 boxes and thereby would have to nearly double my quote. The worst part was, he actually yelled at me telling me that i should have read my contract. I don't believe in yelling at customer service people (I was one once, I know you're powerless) and i told him that I wasn't raising my voice, neither should he. I understood if I had to pay more since it was put in wrong, however it was HIS typo thereby he should be willing to work with me on a price, I had been calling repeatedly to check on everything and the contract didn't have a number of boxes on it. I even tried to appeal to his logic and asked "Don't you think you could fit 5 boxes in your car?" and explained most people bring more than that when moving 1500 miles away. He yelled more, blamed me. I asked to speak to his supervisor, a woman whose name I never got because she came to the phone screaming.

I ended asking for my deposit back and eventually hanging up because i couldn't see the point of being screamed at by people I was paying for a service. To top it off, their truck driver called me the following Sunday at midnight to ask when I'd like him to come by for pick up. Very professional.

I've also filed with the Better Business Bureau, I'm very disappointed in this type of behavior.
