The Reports Are True, All Headline News CEO Jeff Brown Is A Scam Artist

First of all, hello to Eric and Marc, my former collegues and two great sports writers. I am glad I found you here.

As for Mort, thank you. We never "worked together", but I commend you for your research and bringing this report to the forefront.

OK, where should I start?

Jeff Brown is a lying, incompetent, spinless boss who has utter disregard for his employees.

I was one of many employees whose check bounced in July. I was an assistant sports editor at the time when I was informed that I would be receiving a significant salary increase effective July 1. One month later, I was no longer employeed by All Headline News.

Life was good in July. I was getting a raise and was on pace to make about $50,000 a year (combined with another full-time journalism gig), just one year out of college.

Ahh, but I should have known things were too good to be true.

Jeff Brown signed, sealed and delivered my first "new" check (with my raise). I deposited it July 12 and it was removed from my checking account on July 18 due to insufficient funds in the company's banking account (as documented in previous reportas).

After calls and e-mails to Jeff Brown went unanswered, I contacted the lead sports editor, who was on vacation at the time, and he took the time out of his precious offtime to handle the matter.

He called me back within the hour and explained to me what was going on. Next, I contacted the company's accountant, who told me I had to provide a copy of the original check, which I did. All the while, Jeff Brown was trying to steer clear of it all. When he did e-mail me back (and what a lame, cop-out e-mails are after I phoned him multiple times), telling me, "so-so will handle this. Sorry."

To make a long story short, I eventually received a new check that cleared. I guess I am lucky, because I know there's many ex-employees like Marc and Eric and Mort still owed hundreds and maybe thousands of dollars.

I was one of the many who didn't show up to work because of this issue. As a result, I was "fired, " even though I didn't miss three days without no-calling, no-showing as the company policy states (which, thereby, means you are terminated from the company).in fact, I had skipped two days of work with the blessing from my lead editor, who understood my reasoning for not working.

I tried, tried and tried again to reach that lowlife Jeff Brown to explain my situation. And it went far beyond than my job status.

In late July my fiance and I signed a one-year apartment lease for a monthly rent exceeding $1,000. Beautiful place to live and I felt that we could afford it what with my new raise and all.

Not to be.

A few days later the sports department was informed that hours would be reduced. The next day, I was "let go." Did Jeff Brown reach out to me or care one bit about my situation? Nope. He had to save his own ass, the waste of human flesh he is.

I feel bad for the others, as documented here, for their situations. People have families, children, mortgages, the whole nine yards. I am still young and my biggest concern was figuring out how to pay my apartment rent.

I've been making ends meet the last year and will be moving back with mom and dad in August because, well, I just can't afford the cost of living right now.

I can thank Jeff Brown.

Here's hoping that the Associated Press lawsuit and the reports here at usacomplaints.com will signal the end of Brown's tyranny.

I wil say this about my time at All Headline News: it was cake work.

IThe Associated Press is suing them because of copyright infringement. I can honestly say that I neverquoted AP without sourcing them, but believe me, there were thousands of articles published with AP quotes and information that were not sourced.

I did some enterprising reporting, but never traveled anywhere to do "real reporting" because, well, All Headline News had no such compensation plan (such as gas mileage). So, my daily shifts were spent editing peoples work and doing game recaps.

Like I said, the work was cake. Jeff Brown calls the company a news organzation. Uh, far from it, you moron.

All Headline News is NOT a legitimate news source. You can best liken it to copy, cut and paste.

For those aspiring journalists out there, don't make the same mistake many of us did. I was a senior in college when I was hired as a part-time writer for $9.50 an hour. I was just happy to be writing and getting paid and getting my clips out there.

I can attest to the reports here about Jeff Brown and his company. He doesn't know what he's doing and he WILL NEVER PAY YOU ON TIME!

Not that it matters in the grand scheme of it all, but once I received a paycheck unsigned. I called Brown and he told me just to scrbble his name. He was probably too busy blowing away his profits gambling to sign his employees' paychecks.

What a shame...
