Didn't pay bill

Kevin called our company, Messersmith Searchlights, and hired us for his event. We gave him a $200 discount for his event Saturday, November, 10, at the Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center, 1935 Manhattan Beach Blvd., Redondo Beach, CA 90278. The total bill for his event was $400. We went to Bank of America where his check was drawn on and they said there was no money on the account. From what I understand, there has not been money in the account for a long time and it is ready to go to collections. So if that is true, he knowingly and willfully wrote a bad check. We asked for a credit card for back up and that has been continually denied as we continue to try to charge it to this day. I called Kevin who said he thought the check went through (which I believe was a lie). He was very charming on the phone and asked me to send him a copy of the check which I did. He never got back to me or never returned calls.
