Travel Values Plus
Deceptive Credit Card Charges

Shops, Products, Services

Travel Values Plus customer services supervisor have been making an annual charge of $72.00 to our credit card. I do not recall or would have any reason for knowingly requesting membership from Travel Values Plus. My wife who pays our credit card bills assumed the charges were legitimate ones that I had incurred and never checked with me until today. We called the credit card company and Travel Values Plus. The charges appear to have been recurring on every December 29th for at least 4 years.

Travel Values Plus customer services supervisor indicated that membership was some kind of add-on during an online transaction with BizRate. I do not recall the a specific purchase I made from the Bizrate website, but I would have had no reason for purchasing a Travel Values Plus membership - we travel and use rental cars etc. Very infrequently.

Since the time the membership was created, I have never received any membership literature or the like mailed to my home or by email. The Travel Values Plus customer services supervisor said they only use email. I think this is their way of flying under the radar so you are less likely to cancel the membership. Since I never knowingly signed-up with Travel Values Plus, even if I saw email from them, I or my junk mail / spam filter would have deleted it. They said the original transaction was made in the month of September 3 months earlier than their billing date in December. This sounds like a 3 months trial offer in fine print deal they hope you dont cancel.

Travel Values Plus refunded the most recent charge to our credit card and canceled the membership, but it seems to me that Travel Values Plus is deliberately and fraudulently charging consumers credit cards while make sure they are likely to cancel unwanted memberships. A Google search of Travel Values Plus yields many other victims with deceptive charges to their credit cards.

With the number other people reporting unexpected charges from Travel Values Plus, it is surprising that credit card companies' fraud detection systems do not automatically block and alert customers of charges from Travel Values Plus.
