Remote control broken!

I also bought a trutech 20" tv/dvd combo from Goal. Even though tv works perfectly, the handheld remote control no further works, and that I don't have any control within the volume-control or even the dvd handles. Goal as typical will not tackle this issue, and that I can't get another distant.
