Got my credit card # and were rude when i questioned them

Shops, Products, Services

I got a call from a company telling i had won a diamond watch and was being entered to win other prizes. They told me i had to answer some survey questions to be entered into the drawing. The girl was very nice so i went along with it.

After i answered the questions she told me i was also going to recieve 4 magazines for 60 months from the price of just one. They told me i would only have to pay 3.95 month.

She then immediatly transfered me to her "supervisor." This man talked very fast and was very convinicing and he got me to give him my credit card number. He then asked me to give it to him a second time and i told him that i was very comfortable giving that to him. He then went into this long explination of how he was just entering my number right into the computer and that they use a encription system that makes the numbers show up as stars like on the atm when you enter your pin. I stupidly gave him my number again and he then began telling me that they were going to consolidate my payments to 15 payments of $69! I told him that i had changed my mind and i did not want to get the magazines anymore. He told me that he could change my payments back to $4 a month for 60 months if i felt like that was more managable. I kept telling him that i did not want the offer anymore and he kept giving me reasons to get it. He also kept telling me that he could cancel my order if i gave him a valid reason. So i began making things up hoping that one of my reasons would be "valid" to him. I even told him that i already get a few of the magazines and he told me that there records did not show that they were being sent to my address. I finally hung up on him because i was getting flustered and frustrated.

He called me back a few minutes later from a restricted number and he began to be extremely rude to me. He told me that hanging up on him would not get my order canceled. I told him again that i would like my order canceled and he kept telling me to give him a valid reason. He kept saying, "you already gave us your credit card number so why would you change your mind now." He got more and more rude and finally he said "fine ill just cancel you account" and he hung up on me. I did not trust that he had canceled my order so i went and got a new card issued and had my old one blocked.

This company had a lot of information on me. They knew my address and my cell phone number and they knew what magazines were being delivered to my address.
