CallingCards.com hung me out to dry! New York New York

Shops, Products, Services

I purchased a calling card online and callingcards.com advertises that they will e-mail the number so you. I got a thank you e-mail stating my number would arrive shortly.

As I'm boarding the airplane at JFK, I get a call from some little snot at callingcards.com who tells me that my e-mail domain is not valid because she can't look it up and callingcards.com won't be sending a card to me. I asked her how she determined my domain wasn't valid and she stated "Because there's no web site on it."

It turns out that there was a network outage somewhere and she didn't get websites from that region for awhile. I had the same problem on my laptop at JFK and realized this goof was having the same problem.

There's no actual ripoff here, just someone insanely incompetent at the helm. They didn't charge me, but I sure could have used that 2.7 cents rate in Argentina. My cell bill ended up being about $250.

Looking for a web site is no way to verify a domain. There are domains created solely for e-mail, communication and Intranets. Calling that Mickey Mouse would be... Well... An insult to Mickey Mouse.
