Just had Specialty Marketing locate 60 machines and have removed over 20 so far (within two days) due to very poor location placement. Was told I was working with one of the best locators in the business by Jennifer Putnum Buffington. The only thing that the locator was the best at, was getting the VendStar Machines out of his truck and into locations and putting $35 bucks (per machine) into his pocket (on top of the $20 per machine already paid to Specialty Marketing). The locations he found either had one to two other vending machines already there, or were in very very low foot traffic locations, or were placed without management authority (several store owners asked that the machines be pulled immediately when I "toured" the site). The locator tells you that he prefers to work without you being there and that he needs to get paid at the end of the day (before you can even "tour" and can approve the location). Jennifer says that you need to tour the location before you pay the locator but the locator says he has to get paid immediately (before you can tour the location). It is a Catch-22!!! You have to get the machines out of our house so you pay the locator. Then, you "tour" the location and find it is unacceptable. Full circle - you call Jennifer and she says you should not have paid the locator. Who's on First? I don't know... Third Base!!! If the locators REALLY work for their $35 fee and find decent locations that return the $2.50 to $3.00 per day that was warranteed by Jennifer, the business could be profitable. But after my inital dealings with Specialty Marketing, I would be happy just to make even $1.00 per day per machine (which would take me about a year to recoup my initial investment. Does this sound familiar? If so, please let me know.
