Dear consumer advocate group:

About 3 weeks ago I was web surfing and happened upon a web address for a singles sight. I was curious after seeing signs posted all over the place for local singles. What I'd come to find out was that this was nothing more than a front for a low-life, fraudulent scam operation being run out of an office in Cherry Hill, NJ. I was hounded by phone calls and had no idea that The Right One was a dating agency claiming to find available single women for me.

I finally answered the phone and they, not me, arranged for an appointment where I was supposed to meet with a councelor. I being a responsible adult asked right at that point how much this was costing me. Their offer was, and I quote - "NO OBLIGATION AND NO MONEY DOWN." I told them that I was under the impression that this was a local web site and not some agency 50 miles away from me. They said they were going to do a background check and they were trying desperately to get my credit card information which I would not reveal to them.

2 days later when I was walking into the house to contact them with something that had come up they called me. I wasn't able to get to the phone in time so I called them back. When I stated that I didn't have time to meet, the same secretary who stated that there was no obligation suddenly changed her tune and claimed that it was my responsibility to meet at the pre-arranged time. Right after I said that I was going to report them to the Do not call registry, they called me back and said that they would see me at the specified time. Since that day, I've been getting calls, sometimes 2 or 3 times a day with no messages. The Do Not Call registry says that if you do not under any circumstances want to do business with that company, if you tell them that and they call, it's up to $11,000 fine. I think the Do Not Call people are asleep at the wheel because I still keep getting the annoying calls. I haven't paid them any money but I do not want them to ruin my credit or harm my identity in any way.

In closing, they misrepresented themselves, they were illegally soliciting credit card information and they were trying to bully me into buying into this fictional service. There must be some legal recourse. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
