Star Movers
Ripoff of a cross country move from PA to CA -used Internet Company low estimate then charged 4 times as much, also broke a ton of stuff Nasty pigs!

Shops, Products, Services

I wanted to move from the Philadelphia-area of Pennsylvania to Los Angeles, CA. I called an Internet Company that gave me an estimate of about $1700.00. Based on that amount, I used this company.

When the actual movers came, it took them two days to pack the house. But, they did not pack the items into the truck that was going to take the items to CA. The items were in a rented moving van, unpacked into a storage area, then repacked onto another truck. During this phase, many items were broken and destroyed.

In addition, during the packing of the items in the house, the movers destroyed a custom-made shelf. I do not recall even receiving an apology for this act.

After the items were packed, the company wanted $7200.00 total, with half of that immediately. That was never discussed.in addition, I asked why the price had just quadrupled. They told me that they had to use packing materials. They never asked if I was willing to pay for the materials or if I even wanted them to use the materials. They just used them and charged away.

After the movers left, I spoke countless times to the moving agent and moving company, when I could reach them. I found out that the movers could only charge 10% about the estimate, which of course, they did not ahere to. As I now realized that this matter was becoming a serious situation, I started contacting state and federal agencies. I found out that Star Movers should not have been in business and that they did not have the resquisite insurance or licenses.

Since Star Movers was in possessions of my items, I had to continue to negotiate a price to get them back. Eventually, the items were delivered for About $5500.00. They only way this was even accomplished was that the movers that delivered the items were different and that the 2nd movers were more knowledgeable and reputatable and gave me some insight and information into the moving business.

After the items were delivered and unpacked, I found many to be broken. I attempted to contact the agent and moving company be telephone to report the broken items, but they did not respond. Eventually, I send them a certified letter to reques the forms to report the broken items. The company recived the certified letter but did not respond.

I have learned a valuable lesson about the moving business, but that does not excuse Star Movers from their operating practices.
They are a menance and I am glad that this website will allow me to publish my story so that others will not be taken in by Star Movers. Watch Out - they're dangerous!
