Deceptive to employees and candidates, horrible person, dishonest, Ripoff

When I first began with Business Careers I went in to find a job and they ended up offering me a position as a consultant there - I was thrilled! But when I started working here are some things they didn't share upfront and should be a warning to everyone who places their future or the future of their company in it's hands:

First, they hire you at a draw. This means, unless you make the money up quickly with placements, you owe the company money. There are no guarantees and you are upside down and stay that way for SEVERAL months. You are required to come in at 7:30 or 7:45 every morning.in fact, the contract says that if you come in after 7:45 you are considered late. The day ends at 5:00, but if you leave at exactly Five youll get dirty looks. Also, you are permitted to have an hour lunch... But you are expected to stay at work for training or to answer the phones. This is not a helping people business, its a telemarketing job, plain and simple.

If you have not made a placement, you still owe the company money but they will keep you around so they can use the information for the senior consultants. And then they fire you. OR they will keep you on until youve made a placement and THEN let you go and the company keeps your money and you are left to find another job. BUT! You have already signed a contract which states that you are not allowed to work with or for any other employment agency with 100 mile radius. And you are not allowed to work with or for any companies that Business Careers HAS worked with, is PRESENTLY working with, or could POTENTIALLY work with. Oh! But they let you know that the only position you are qualified for and can work for once terminated for ANY reason is the job you just left. (ie, if you worked as a Project Manager before coming to Business Careers, the only jobs you are allowed to take are jobs where the title is Project Manager.) Also, if they cannot find your training manuals they will withhold your paycheck.

How do you make money? By making placements. Which means you have to interview people and find jobs for them. Both parties must agree and sign contracts. THEN you make money? NO! Then you must inform the company that they should pay their service charge within 10 days of the hire date to get a 5% discount. The service charge is based on 20% of the person's annual income. That seems fair. BUT! Instead of the 5% service charge being taxed to Business Careers end IT COMES OUT OF YOUR POCKET! That's right instead of getting your 30% share of the service charge, you only receive 25%.

Here's how Business Careers Operates:
You must call potential candidates every day. If the candidates have not personally sought out Business Careers we have to chase them down through online posted resumes and so forth. If you cannot get a hold of the potential candidates, you are to use their resumes as 'employer leads.' This means you call the last few companies that the potential candidate has worked for and get them to fill out a 'Job Order.'

Once a candidate comes in for an 'interview' we may already know before hand that we are not able to represent the candidates.in fact, we are instructed to only represent three (if that!) of every ten people we bring in to 'interview.' They call this a 'courtesy.' Well that seems silly, why would you bring in a candidate you know you can't represent? You are instructed to take information from the candidates such as, 'where have you been interviewing?' 'Whom did you speak with at that company?' 'Who is the hiring manager?' Kary York is infamous for pretending to know everyone at every company. She will often say, 'Oh we work with them!' so that you will dish more information.

Those become 'employer leads.' You might be thinking, 'Oh well I will just be tight-lipped about it and not share with them that information.' No no no. If you deny Business Careers ANY information personal or business, they are instructed not to work with you because you are 'uncooperative.'

Ok, so you're one of the three out of ten people who is accepted as a candidate. You are required to come in before AND after each and every interview you are sent out on.'But that's ridiculous! I live in Federal Way and you're office is in Lynwood and the interview is in Redmond!' 'Too bad, you must not want the job badly enough, ' is their stance. The consultants are instructed not to share any information about the company until you are back in their office prepping for the interview.

So you went online and saw all these 'great' jobs. Looks can be very deceiving. The fact is, most of the jobs online or in the papers are the best examples of the kind of jobs Business Careers has. But the catch is, either the jobs aren't available (they just use nice sounding jobs to get more people to come in) or they use a terrible tactic to make the jobs sound more appealing. Here's the trick: Say theres a job where the pay is 35K. But there's mileage reimbursement they'll tack on, and profit sharing, and bonuses, and any training, and cell phone reimbursement and anything else they can drum up like tuition reimbursement or stock options. The way Business Careers advertises this 35K job is 'Great Opportunity with lots of advancement 60K!'

I mentioned before about 'employer leads, ' there are other ways consultants are expected to get this information from you. You know how you filled out an application and provided three references? Well those will all be used to the consultant's advantage. They will call those 'references' not for it's intended use, but to find out who's hiring to get more Job Orders.

With hundreds and hundreds of pages of instruction manuals and many required tapes and videos to watch there is only ONE paragraph about integrity. Business Careers is a terrible company to work with.
