Send a check for $2000 and tell you you have won money Ripoff

I received a letter with a check in the amount of $2980.00. The letter said I had won a lottery (that I do not remember signing up for) As my Dad always says "If it seems to good to be true, it probably is."

I looked on this complaint website and found two other people with the same story. The letter says the money is for administrative payment and clearance fees.

It looks like a perfectly good check. However the letter is very unprofessional! Mispelled words, some words not capitalized that should have been, little hinky stuff like that.

I do not know what the scam is, honestly I am afraid to call the number as I have heard of people zapping your phone bill in some scams.

Anyone know how this scam works? I would like to know.
