Ripoff DISHONEST Handyman - Leaves work incomplete, TAKES YOUR MONEY, Odessa Texas Handyman will Rip you off

Mark N. Johnson of M&S Home Repair was hired to seal the roof of my mothers mobile home near her air conditioning unit and repair interior damage to the ceiling by replacing the ceiling material with sheetrock. The job was bid to be $2280 (the bid stated $1000 for materials and $1280 for his labor (80 hours@ $16/hr) plus $500 for a new air conditioner if it was needed. An additional contingency amount of $1000 if there was unforseen damage. Mr Johnson required a down payment of $1500 to begin the work. We paid the required downpayment and got a receipt for the payment. He told us that the supplies to do the job would arrive on the following Monday. The supplies arrived, and Mr Johnson arrived about 10am and stayed on the job until 2:00pm then left for the day. It was determined that the airconditioner needed repair, however instead of buying a new unit, we agreed that Mr Johnson should purchase parts to fix the unit. Mr Johnson requested $200 to cover materials for the airconditioner. It was paid and we obtained a receipt. Mr Johnson spent 2 days (approximately 10am to 2pm) fixing the unit. During the first week he took a day off to take care of personal business. At the end of the first week 3 of 16 pieces of sheetrock had been replaced and the airconditing unit had been worked on. The roof had not been sealed. The second week most of Monday was lost due to rain. Tuesday he worked again from about 9:30 to 2:00 pm. We asked for additional materials to be used to help seal the roof (flashing along the edge of the roof line) This was outside the contract. He asked for and received $50 for materials. On Wednsday of the second week he asked for $235 against the contingency for the air conditioner and stated that he had put in 60 hours labor already because of the air conditioner repair. He stated that he was not making any money on this job and that he would show me the receipts. I obtained copies of the receipts (totaling $566) At the same time we noticed that Mr Johnson had removed almost all of the tools he had been using to do the job. I told him that I did not want to pay that amount until more of the work was completed. Later that day he told me that he had fallen on my mothers property and broken his ankle but did not hold her responsible. It was decided that he would not be able to work for at least 2 days.in the mean time we had to travel out of town and arrangements were made for Mr. Johnson to finish the outside work of sealing the roof and complete putting up the flashing around the edge of the roof. While we were gone Mr Johnson called my mother and expressed the need for the $235 that he asked for earlier because he was running out of money. We made arrangements to pay him the $235 but got no receipt. Two days later he asked for $400 more dollars and we told him we would not pay anymore money until the job was finished His response was "Okie Dokie" and we have not heard from him since. He is ducking our calls and has not been back to the job.in all he has received $2000 and the jobs are all incomplete. After the fact I did a background check and found that he has a criminal record. My advice do your homework and do not use this person
