Boarding Ripoff! Dogs don't even go outside, and you pay for extra walks!

As a former employee of this veterinary clinic, I only lasted there about 1 month before I couldn't take the dishonesty and complete carelessness anymore.in fact, I hardly know anyone who has lasted even 3 months working in this enviroment.

I worked as a kenneler/vet assistant. When you check in for boarding, if you'd like your dog walked "extra" times a day... You can pay an extra $3.00 or so per day per walk. The complete rip off is that we WEREN'T ALLOWED TO TAKE THE BOARDING DOGS OUT... AT ALL! Sometimes we'd sneak around to do it, but the Doctor/owner would chew us out if he found out about it. The reason the dogs weren't allowed out: It would mess up the lawn. Even though he had a whole fenced area to let the dogs out in, he cared more about the appearance of his clinic than the mental well being of the dogs. So, if you board your dog there... He's in his cage... All the time! And you are flushing that extra money down the toilet. Haven't you ever wondered why you NEVER see a dog out in the yard???

Have you ever asked to see the boarding kennel and they've refused because of "liability" issues? Don't be fooled. The real reason is because the doctor keeps his "throw-away" dogs back there. Dogs that he and his wife can no longer breed or show are doomed to a life in the kennel of the clinic where they are never walked, or hardly paid attention to at all! While I worked there there were five of these dogs living there... And they all are EXTREMELY dog aggressive! One attacked a Sheltie that was being groomed, and she had to have surgery! Another attacked a Shar-Pei that also had to have surgery! These dogs are so bored and socially neglected that they spend all their time spinning around in the cage! They have left CIRCLE MARKS IN THE CEMENT from spinning so much. And did the doctor or his wife ever come back to pay any attention to these dogs? Most certainly not! This is why you are not allowed to see the kennel. Because you'd see these poor, lonely dogs spinning themselves to death on the cement.

Have you ever boarded your dog and paid extra money for him to be bathed upon pick up? Well guess what? You're throwing your money away because that dog WOULD HAVE BEEN BATHED ANYWAY. All the dogs get a bath upon departure, but if you request it, you pay for it!

The last straw was witnessing an "unnamed" blonde female doctor trying to give a cat some x-rays, and observing the most abusive treatment of an animal I've ever seen in an animal care facility. The cat wasn't cooperating (they rarely do), but this was no reason for the doctor to throw him to the floor, then grab him by the scruff of his neck while screaming at him, and yanking him around until he literally urinated and defecated on himself. All the while he was crying and yowling.

Not to mention the treatment of the employees. When the owner/doctor was in a "mood" he'd randomly call everyone in the clinic into an exam room, then put everyone down so much that everyone was almost in tears, and just go on and on about how awful everyone was. Still wondering why you rarely see the same staff member in there twice?

I love animals, and that is why I'm posting this report. I would never ever ever board my own pet at Alex Bell, and if you do, you're putting your pet in jepoardy. Ask anyone who is a former employee and they will all give the same story. No one gets fired from Alex Bell... They leave—disgusted and disillusioned. Switch your clinic now!
