Marlene Patterson Storage Units on Route 18 (Clyde St. Wampum)

During the years of 2004 to 2006 I rent a storage unit from Marlene Patterson. During the time I rented this unit I did not check my storage unit other then the occasional trip (aprx. 10 times) to retrieve an item I needed. Upon moving my items out in 2006. I found two boxes of rat poison in my storage shed that where ripped apart and pellets of rat poison strewn about the storage unit. I was aware these boxes were placed into every storage unit as a precaution to detour rodents. I had no clue at anytime that rodents were an actual problem in this storage unit. Upon unpacking my items finding the pellets around and finding rodent feces in my boxes I was a little disturbed at this.

There is also a 30 dollars deposit you must leave before renting a storage unit. To get this back you must sweep out your storage unit. She requests that you do not sweep the dust and rat pellets outside the storage unit because she does not want to kill the bunnies. Yet she offers you no place to put this hazardous waste material. You are also not to leave it inside the storage unit or you will not get your deposit back. Because I have small children in my home I was not going to bring this hazardous waste back to my home to throw away. Not to mention the fact I don't feel comfortable with cleaning up such a product. This I guess is another way for her to be able to retain your security deposit.

The above problem was just minor compared to the ruin of a lot of cloth items (including but not limited to clothing and furniture) from mildew and mold. The storage unit was obviously leaking at some point somewhere. The items that where ruined where located towards the bottom (furniture) or in the back (boxes) on top of the furniture.

During the duration of this rental I also encountered a lock out period. I was in the hospital for testing that lead to surgery and did not make my payment on time with lead the owner to double lock my storage unit. I was not given any warning to this or a letter stating submit payment before lockout. I only received a certified letter after the fact of her double locking the storage unit. Payment was submitted after this letter with in a 72 hour period. She also charged for this certified letter she sent. (Cost of doing business).

It is my opinion that if you want a rodent free, safe, non leaking place to store your stuff avoid at all cost this storage unit.
