I purchased a Yorkshire Terrier from Puppy Depot in April. I am just now writing a rip off report after viewing this website.
The yorkie was only eight weeks old and was very tiny. The workers assured me the puppy would be around 8lbs, I knew that they could not guarantee size but they had me convinced that it would not be a large yorkie.
Everything was fine, the puppy had a slight case of kennel cough, which was understandable because she was kept in the close vicinity of other puppies. However, what happened next was devastating.
One night, the puppy got extremely sick she urinated all over my lap as she was sitting there and fell unconcious - at first we thought she was in hypoglycemic shock so we smeared a glucose supplement on her gums, when she did not wake up we rushed out of the house at 10pm.
Since no vets offices were open at that time we had to rush to the nearest Emergency Vet. This incident was only one week after we had brought the puppy home. At the emergency vet, they told us we had almost lost the puppy, she was hooked up to IVs and was being monitored.
THey kept her overnight until she was stabalized, did some tests and couldn't figure out what was wrong with her. WE had to pay in full before leaving the Emergency Vet office $1200 later we brought the puppy home.
The family knew that we could return our yorkie since she was infact sick and receive our money back but after a week of having her as part of our family how could we return her to that place. About a week after her first episode we were back in the Emergency Vet office, again $1200 later we were still not told exactly what was wrong with our dog, she was too young to tell.
Finally an episode happened during the day about a week later, we brought her to our personal vet and found out that our puppy was infact epileptic. Epilepsy is passed down from parents and usually doesn't show up until the dog is older. There is no way to prove that Epilepsy was a birth defect so there was no way to be compensated for our medical expenses.
After paying $1500 for the dog, we had now aquired almost $3000 in vet bills and puppy depot was not about to compensate us.in order to be compensated we would have had to have a catscan done on the puppy which would have cost more then we would have been compensated.
Now we have a 2 year old yorkie, that weighs 16lbs and is on a strict regiment of taking a narcotic drug phenobarbatol to supress her seizures. Puppy Depot should be put out of business, they sell sick puppies.
