Our cellular phone plan from Plateau Wireless provides free in-network mobile-to-mobile calls. Most of these calls appear correctly on the bill and are not charged against our "free" minutes and are not charged a per-minute monetary fee. However, some incoming in-network mobile-to-mobile calls are charged.

The invoices fail to show who the incoming calls are from. I am, therefore, unable to verify which are legitimately charged and which are not.

My wife called Plateau twice concerning this matter. The first time, she was told by their representative that they would mail a spreadsheet, which never arrived. The second time, she spoke to a woman named Tammy who promised to call her back. She didn't. My wife called Tammy back on 06/12/06 and Tammy returned this call on 06/14/06. She promised to look into it and get back to us. She never did.

I included a letter with payment for the basic fees telling Plateau what the problem was and asking them to verify the charges. They responded with a disconnect notice.

I filed a Better Business Bureau complaint (currently pending) and forwarded a copy to Plateau. This received a response from a woman named Denise. She stated that if we wanted the charges verified we would have to get a "sopena" [sic]. We asked if, in light of this, the charges would be credited and she stated that they would not.

I have been told that I may contact Joel, the "wireless manager." If he fails to verify the charges or issue a credit, I will file a complaint with the New Mexico Public Regulation Commission since Plateau is a regulated utility. The NMPRC works in tandem with the NM Attorney Generals office to investigate cases of fraud.

I encourage all Plateau Telecommunications customers (wireless/cellular, local and long distance, and Internet) to check their bills and ensure that they are not being overcharged.
