To whom it may concern:

It has come to my attention recently that at a Blockbuster store in my neighborhood is also a part of a nationwide incompetence scheme or maybe it is a scam. For whatever reason the Blockbuster Company as a whole has been involved in some very shaky business. I recently rented four DVD movies from the Blockbuster store located at 3580 Mayfield road in Cleveland Heights, Ohio. I held the videos for about 10 days. It was the week before Easter. My brother's birthday was on that Friday April 14th and I was going to visit him in Fort Stewart, Georgia on that Monday. I knew that I would be gone a week so I knew it was imperative that I turned in the movies before I left and so before I got on the road I made sure that made a special stop at Blockbuster and followed my normal routine of checking to make sure that each DVD was in the right case and that I had them all. I know how many DVD's I had because I rented one for myself, one for my girlfriend, and each of my two daughters had pick a movie. It has been over a month since I had the movies but I believe they were The Island, Why Men are Dogs, Tarzan cartoon, and A Troll cartoon. The day that I turned them in I thought about them no more, simple because I had a 12 hour drive on my hands.

This leads me up to today, I stop over my parents house to do some extra work for my job and to my surprise I see three Blockbuster mailings on my parents dining room table addressed to me. When I open the card it said that I owed $6.13. The card didn't say what I owed for so I decided to call the store and find out about this over sight. The phone was answered by a woman saying that she was the store manager. I believe the last name was Fleischer. I can't really remember the first name so I won't guess. She assured me that one of her managers made sure that he checked everything in a proper fashion and she also told me that he was young and had no kids and for that reason he wouldn't have wanted to take that movie. She informed me that I never turned in the Troll movie and I should be looking around my house for the movie. At the time I was talking to her I was at my mother's house so I told her that I wasn't at home to look for it.in my mind I already knew that it wasn't there so the search would be futile even if I was there. The thing is because of my planning before my trip I had made a special point to turn in the four movies before I left town. I only made two stops before I got on the highway. I wasn't in a rush because you can't rush a 12 hour drive, it takes planning! My first stop was at Blockbuster. Store Manager Fleischer explains to me that her store and its computers don't make any mistakes. The entire time that she was talking I could not grasp the concept of any company or organization not capable of making mistakes. For this reason the entire phone call became more and more disturbing. I had been recently in business with the Blockbuster that was located on Cedar road by my apartment I had never had any problems with the way they did business. I even had a store manager help me when I purchased a game and it stopped working on me and I hadn't any receipt. He exchanged the game for me and told me that if had any problems to come and see him. I thought that was nice of him to because he could have refused. At that time I was purchasing movies and video games about every other week and when I was getting late I would get a movie guy phone call and that would remind me if I was late. Store Manager even guaranteed me that the automated call system called me on several occasions; I told her that I hadn't received any calls; she claimed I must have hung up when I heard the message.

I guess the question is Who protects the consumer from these allegations? Is it true that the Blockbuster Company has fallen under anarchy of business ideals? If I turned a movie in at 9:10am when nobody was there and a Store Manager claims that a totally different manager says that I didn't who back's me? The truth is I went to my daughters preparing to hear the jolt of a life time by asking my daughters about the stupendously popular Troll movie. I asked my daughters Do you still have the Troll movie in your room (second guessing myself)? My oldest daughter said Daddy you gave that move and Tarzan back to the store. I don't know what shocked me more the fact that she remembers the movies that we rented a month ago or the fact that she remembered me giving it back. I did say that the Store manager was accusing me of stealing because if person keeps anything that does not belong to them, then to me that is stealing.

I am also African-American enough to know that people can accuse you of stealing without calling a person a thief. I will no longer have any dealings with Blockbuster, and I will inform my family and friends of the injustices that waiting for them at any random moment at there neighborhood Blockbuster. Many people say that bootlegging and pirating downloads are illegal, I guess that is the only way people can avoid getting scam by Blockbuster and Karen Fleischer.
