Dispute over $2,173.33 charges with dish Network, Springdale AR

Attn: Ken, Sam Dave and Tamara and whom ever this may concern

On Saturday March 25, Robert (technician) installed a Satellite Dish for 3 T.V. S in my home. At the end of the day * after * all the equipment was installed Robert asked me to sign some papers confirming I was satisfied with the work, which I did. Later that evening when I looked over the papers I was shocked to discover that these papers were actually a contract. So immediately, that same evening, I called Dish Network and asked them to cancel the contract. I was told to wait until Monday, although I did call again Sunday, and was reassured this would be taken care of Monday (today). I called Monday morning and was informed by Tamara, who was hired to handle all billing complaints, that I was legally bound to Dish Network for 18 months and there was no 3 day "cooling off" period. Further, she said that I must continue with Dish, whether I like it or not, or I would be charged $2,173.33 for installation and equipment. I asked Robert to come out and remove equipment so now they have all the equipment back and I am being billed for it.

Tamara was rude and uncooperative so we could not reach any reasonable agreement. Since the only way to disconnect was to pay $2,173, 33 (financial blackmail) I charged the bill to a credit card and will now enter into a dispute with Dish Network.

I checked the Internet and found that I am not alone in my complaint. Many subscribers have been "ripped Off" by Dish Network in this deceptive manner. The bottom line is this: They lure you in to try Dish Network, and do not disclose that you will be liable for all the equipment if for any reason you are not satisfied. They install * first* then slip you a contract
* after * everything is installed without disclosing the enormous cost of discontinuing their service. They did not tell me up front that once Dish Network was installed I would be liable for over $2,000.00 If I was not happy with their service for any reason (and there were several reasons) and would choose to discontinue their service. I don't think many people would line up to sign with Dish Network if they knew what I have found out the hard way. The point is they didn't advise me of this until * after * they installed the system.
