Ripoff - Company will not take responsibility of their employees or the damage to my items during the move

I want to file a complaint about a Chicago based moving company so now one else in the Chicago land area gets ripped off by this company like I did. The name of the company is Chicagoland Movers LLC and their website is www.chicagolandsgreatest.com. The movers from this company damaged a lot of my items during the move and they refuse to take responsibility for the damages and are trying to blame me.

The first thing they broke was my halogen lamp. This was done before the trip to my new place so I had them throw away the broken lamp. During the move into my new apartment one of the movers dropped my 120 computer speakers from about 6 feet in the air. Luckily I had speakers boxed and protected. After I started to organize my new place I noticed that the corner of my 27 Sony WEGA tv was cracked, the corner of my leather sectional couch had an indentation in it, and two of my glass bowls were broken.

When I confronted the company about the damages they told me that the damages were just cosmetic so it is not big deal and they were not responsible for the broken bowls because I packaged them and not the movers. They told me that I could not replace the broken bowls with a new set of glass ware. I think most people would rather have a complete set instead of a mix of different types of glass ware.

Just because the damage is cosmetic doesn't make it okay either. I can't think of anyone would accept damage if it was cosmetic but their items still worked.

People purchase certain items for their looks and their functionality like a leather sectional couch. The owner of the company also claimed that the indentation would come out in time. It has not come out. It's been three weeks, and will never come out. I checked the indentation and it's permanent. There is also a little hole in the indentation too. The movers said I was asking for too much to have the entire couch replaced. That's fine if they will have my original couch repaired to its original status. If this cannot be done I want either a replacement or the fair value of my couch. The company can have my damaged couch if they want it; I just want to be reimbursed for the damages. The same thing goes for my tv.

The bowls are not as big of a deal as the couch and tv, but they should have not been broken. I don't think it matters if I packaged them or if they did. I wrapped all of my glass ware in newspaper and put it carefully into the box. My belongings should not have handled as rough as they were. My boxes had to be handled improperly to break two of my bowls. The company is refusing to take responsibility for their workers and is actually blaming me for the damage and claiming that I am trying to extort them.

Another thing is that no one ever explained the insurance to me, which I had to pay for. I asked the movers about it and they didn't know anything about the insurance and one of them told me that I had to talk to the owner about it. The owner claims that his movers do know about the insurance and they told me about it, which is a lie. When I contacted the owner about the damage which was that night he replied saying that I didn't follow the insurance policy so I couldn't do anything about it. I had to check for any damages before the movers left. If I would have known this I would have done so.
I even contacted the BBB about this and they couldn't do anything to resolve the situation. They just advised me to talk to a lawyer.

I do not recommend hiring this company for any kind of service. It is the worst service I have gotten, during and after. The owner is not willing to take responsibility for his workers and is trying to blame me for all the damages. I have sent him pictures and he says that my items are not damaged. I am in the process of looking for a lawyer to take this to court. Do not get ripped off like I did and avoid this company at all costs!
