Talk America tries to impose $15 cancellation fee. Talk America charges ridiculous bogus fees to pad the bill. Tried to cancel and was told via chat with rep in Palm Harbor FL that there would be $15 cancel fee. Asked repeatedly where is this $15 fee mentioned either on their website or in any company literature. Rep repeatedly evaded answering - just kept saying it's their policy - but could not produce any evidence whatsoever. Said it was to cover their cost of notifying local carrier via electronic submission. This costs $15??

After repeated questioning, rep finally agreed to waive this bogus fee and lamely offered that this "charge" is covered under Legal Notices. It's NOT. Current fee for base plan is $19.99- The actual bill is over $52.00. That's a whopping $33 for taxes and fees on a base bill of $19.99!!!

If you have this service get rid of it. Be sure to give at least 15 days notice - do it in writing and request written confirmation. Send your request "signature required" mail.

Send a cc to their corporate office and one to your local Public Service Commision. This phone co, is hard to get rid of and will send your account to a Collection Agency faster than you can say RIPOFF. Note, if you contact via chat.- be sure you can print the chat session - they do not stand by their word and thus are unwilling to provide a transcript-a reputable firm will always provide these transcripts, not Talk America. They are prime candidate for class action suit for their bogus fees. Do not let them rip you off.
