NOW Only want money! Not customer friendly! Stay away! Ripoff

On Jan 18, I came home to find what I thouhjt was a mal-functioning telephone (no dial tone). I thought the telephone line was damaged, and took the phone to a neighbors' home (that wasn't connected to my line), and the phone worked! I then used my cell phone to call NOW to find out what I should do.

They said my telephone had been disconnected because I had not paid my bill. I NEVER GOT A BILL! (this company does not communicate by e-mail, only thru the US Mail, and we all know how unreliable that is! Especially during the holidays) From my previous bills I conclude that it must have been sent about Dec 20 (during the hoiday season!)

I told customer service that I had NEVER RECEIVED A BILL
, they said that didn't matter that I would have to pay $59.99 to have service restored. I did so!

My complaint is this: When they didn't get my payment, they could have at least called me to verify that the payment was not made or sent another "overdue" bill.instead they just turned off the phone! (Of course that meant no Internet also).

Bills do say"Your service will be completely disconnected if full payment is not made within 10 days of the due date", however it does seem that they could have contacted me to tell me that the phone would be disconnected or sent some type of notice as a curtesy.
This company is not at all "customer-friendly" It only seeks to make $.

I have contacted the BBB and written to their "Manager". But do not have expectations that they will be more "customer-friendly" or realize that perhaps a Dec 20 mailing may be "lost in the mail"

Any other suggestions about who I can contact would be welcome!!!
