United Collection Bureau
Ripoff illegal collection practices, threats, and harrassment when they claimed I wasn't paying enough money each month

Shops, Products, Services

I was paying a regular monthly payment to AT&T Credit Card which is owned by CitiCard. I requested and was supposedly granted a 2 month deferment due to illness and an auto accident in July.

After the 2 months I began making my monthly payments again as agreed upon.in December I received a letter from UCB stating my account had been turned over to them for collection and I had 30 days to dispute the claim.

Less than 15 days later the harrassment began. I was called 5 to 10 times per day, even on weekends. I requested that all further contact be made by letter (which was ignored). When I began to hang up on the rude collectors instead of trying to argue with them, I was called by a man who gave his name as James Berry.

He threatened me with immediate seizure of my vehicle, (even though I owe another company for it), stated that papers would be served on me the following day, and called me a liar repeatedly. I asked that our conversation be recorded and he lied and said he turned on a recorder. He refused to give me a supervisor's name or contact information and I hung up during the following shouting match.

Using an "800" number on the only letter I received from UCB, I requested a supervisor and of course got a voice mail for "Shanita" where I left messages that were never returned. I again asked that contact be by letter so that I would have copies of all requests and my responses.

In a couple of days I received a call from "Laura." I again requested that any contact be by letter and she said it would be "in the nature of a summons". I hung up.

This week a man called Bill Incontro called claiming to be taking legal action if I did not immediately pay off the full amount of my debt. He deliberately tried to make me believe that he was an attorney. I told him that I would resume my regular monthly payments and he said he was putting down that I refused to pay my bill.

I told him to put his demands in writing and send them to me. I quoted the statutes from South Carolina law saying that I have that right and he began talking over me, so again I hung up.

Not knowing what else to do I have written the main office, but really expect no satisfaction from them either.

Such a disreputable, unscrupulous company as United Collection Bureau that has no respect for Federal or state laws should be put out of business.
