Medicus / IBD / Straightway
Ripoff, deceptive marketing practices, theft of services, fraud, general chicanery

Shops, Products, Services

Much like the other person who filed a complaint, I have also been ripped-off by Medicus. When I first called them they PROMISED me a six-month guarantee if I wasn't satisfied; they also promised that if they didn't get the required five patients each month, I would recieve a rebate. Ten months into the contract, guess what—no patients and no rebates either.

Their "marketing strategies" WERE NOTHING NEW! These were basically the same things that we already did in the office-referrals and commercials. The only thing that they did that was new was a "mail drop" that was frighteningly lame and looked very cookie-cutter.

They also assigned us a coach who "left the company" under mysterious circumstances. To say that our second coach was useless is an understatement. We would ask her repeatedly where our rebates were; she always gave us the same tired line, "Well, I don't know about those. Someone else will have to call you back." Guess what, they never did! That's pretty much the story with these people, YOU WILL NEVER GET YOUR MONEY BACK!!!

Another thing you must know before you get into bed with these scumbags is that the contract price is not the final price. Let's say that you sign up for a 5 year, $50,000 contract. What they don't tell you is that you will also have to pay for another 800 number (for the commercials), access to the Do Not Call Registry (federal is several hundred, states' vary), and a site to host your web page. They also make it sound like that you pay them and they do all of the work... Again, not true. You also have to hire additional staff to make cold calls off of the names they get out of the phone book. Since phone books are free, you can do that yourself for a whole lot cheaper than $50k.

Like I said, here we are TEN MONTHS later, no patients-no rebates-no refund. We have retained a lawyer to pursue a breach of contract suit. Apparently, the "Six Month Iron Clad Guarantee" they promise is exactly that, only it's iron clad for them not us! Just looking around on the web, there are a half-dozen or so sites that have also been ripped off by Medicus. More importantly, in their previous form they were known as TNG Marketing. Under that name they were busted by the TX Atty General and have over 50 complaints on the BBB of Houston's website. They were also sanctioned by the ADA for ripping off dentists. The jokers who run Medicus have apparently been in the con artist business for quite some time. Only this time, they aren't taking $1 bills at three card monty-they are bankrupting your business! Please beware!!!
