BMG Music
Charged for music I didn't get or want. Had to keep buying beyond the deal I was told I was getting

I fell for it. BMG Music Service had a "great deal" on a bunch of music and as there were a number of CD's on the way out that I wanted I figured I would take them up on it. They told me that if I paid for my first seven CD's or so I could get the next five free. This twelve for the price of seven was not a lie at first in and of it self but what followed was less than good business. I ordered a ton of the music I was looking for and they did ship everything but when I got the bill it was for all twelve CD's. I checked my account with them and they said I had to buy (and pay for of course) five more CD's. I was still only paying for twelve CD's and getting seventeen so I did not make much noise about this figuring it was a small error and I was still getting a decent deal. It is a mistake I have learned from and will not repeat with any company again.

I started getting CD's that I did not order and that I did not even want. They began sending me death metal and a bunch of punk even though I have never purchased any of it or even anything much like it in the past. A bill came with all these CD's of course and it was at the full price for all the CD's they decided to send and charge me for. I began trying to cancel my account and in the three days it took me to finally get through to someone on their help line who knew how to take me out of their system (there is no way to get away from them on-line by the way), I received yet another bill for a CD' I did not want and this time didn't even get at all.

All in all this little adventure ran me about 80 bucks more that the music would have if I had bought it all out of a store. The only good thing about BMG music was how good they were at getting money out of me; the way the kept me from leaving, the way they just kept charging me for things that I had expressed no interest in what so ever, and they way they had the contract on their side so I could not do anything about it it was all pretty clever. I guess this is what I get for no longer downloading music for free of pier to pier networks but instead trying to do the honest thing and pay for it learned my lesson.

Maybe I just got unlucky, maybe I forgot to check the "Don't buy music for me and charge me for it!" box but what ever it was I won't be shopping there again anytime soon. I am just glad that I was able to stop the bills before they really got me into the poor house. As a college student, I don't exactly have a ton of money to buy things I actually want let alone line the pockets of seedy business people.

This has come and gone for me and legal action is totally baseless due the fine print that they put in front of me as I signed up. I am just giving my 2 cents so others know what kind of an experience they may have with this company. I buy all of my music from Amazon.com now as they have yet to rip me off or anyone else I know for that matter (and they have better prices than BMG music ever did anyway).
