Ikea
Does not have a problem with managers who lie to customers, walked us out through the door when asking for store manager, ripoff

Shops, Products, Services

On 10/30 we went to IKEA in Tempe, AZ because it was the last day of a 15% off campaign.

We were going to buy 3 chairs and went to the warehouse. The dark brown chairs (without the cushion) were not on the floor but about 7 feet above the floor in the shelf. We asked an associate with a stairway on wheels (like the ones which Home Depot or Lowes also uses) to get the boxes down for us. Each box weighs about 10 pounds and is about 40 X 30 inches big. The associate, who was taking out stuff from the next shelf using this stairway (about 15 feet away) told us: "this is against the companie's policy to take something down for you, you have to come back tomorrow"

We talked to a lady at a computer terminal inside the warehouse and explained to her that we did not want to spend another $10 for gas and another 2 hours to come back the next day. We also explained to her that their advertisement said: "15% off for everything in stock" since the items were actually in stock they should at least give us a raincheck for the next day if they had a problem to get the boxes down from the shelf for us.

The lady called the department manager who advised us (and a group of aproximately 10 other customers who were looking for the same color and had the same problem) to buy a different color that day and come back the next day to exchange it for the right color. He said: "that way you will still get it for the 15% off"

One customer told him that they had come all the way from Tucson (about 250 miles) but they did not have mercy with him - he had to go home and come back again.

We followed the manager's advise and bought a different color. When we returned a few days later, and explained that we just wanted to exchange the chairs for the same chairs but in a different color, their customer service would not do it. They reversed the credit card charges but they would not give us the chairs in the dark brown color with the 15% off.

When we asked for the store manager we were told that he was "not available". A manager on duty said "I am sorry, that the department manager had told you something wrong that day", that was her way how to resolve the issue. No attempt to talk to the manager who told us to buy a different color and exchange it later, not interested in maintaining a good relationship with the customer at all. Just a "sorry, that he told you that..."

When we told her that we felt that Ikea was playing games with us, (several other customers were listening to our conversation) a guy who seemed to be some kind of a gang member, with tatoos all over his body, even on the neck, appeared and walked us through the door. This guy was not wearing a uniform or name tag, did not introduce himself, just told us: "I want you to leave the store"

Obviously this guy represents IKEA in Tempe - we know one thing for sure: this was the last time we ever went shopping in this store.
