On July 7th, I was contacted through email by a man who claimed to be "Neil from Sexy Killer Records". He stated in his email that he'd found my band, i Dream Alone, through our purevolume.com website and wanted to include our music on Sexy Killer Records' latest compilation album. I can furnish the orginal emails if needed.

The catch was that there was a fee of $185 to be on this "compilation", and we would recieve 40 copies of the compilation, as well as 4 months promotion on their website and a short list of record stores and radio stations. Being a bit naive, i agreed to everything, and, after a few more emails exchanged (including an odd one that was an invite for us to be included on Sexy Killer Record's new compilation - this arrived on July 12th, after we had agreed to be on the comp and were in contact with "Neil"), I sent a CD with my band's song burned on it and a money order for $185 made out to a man named "Coty Templin" to the following address:

The money order was addressed to the same "Coty Templin" at that address, who was supposedly their "account executive". It was mailed on August 4th. On August 6th, i emailed them a scanned copy of the "Promotional Agreement" they had sent me for the band, signed by myself and my other band member, Jon Sovey.

When we recieved an email on August 8th saying they'd recieved the materials, it said we'd recieve our copies of the compilation at the end of September. The original email said we'd recieve our 40 copies of the compilation CD at the end of August. There was no explaination for this. On that same day, August 8th, we recieved another email asking if we wanted to be on a compilation CD from them, identical to the email we recieved on July 12th. I assumed it was some sort of mistake and wrote it off at the time.

I emailed the photo and a blurb about ourselves to sexykillerrecords@yahoo.com, as was instructed by "Neil".

I emailed "Neil" a couple more times, the last one being sent on August 16th, asking if they recieved the photo and blurb and if everything was on track. I finally recieved a response on August 29th. "Neil" apologized for taking so long to get back to me, said he had everything they needed and that we'd recieve more info shortly.

I have heard nothing from this person or anyone related to him or his company since.

I did check around the internet and i can find no places to buy the compilations and CDs that this "record label" states they have put out on their website. The name "Coty Templin" appears in multiple websites, mostly him promoting his band, "Folded Faces", and their website at purevolume.com/foldedfaces however, at their purevolume site, this name, "Coty Templin" is never mentioned.

The other bands supposedly signed to this record label have no information about them that i have been able to find on the internet, other than on Sexy Killer Record's website.

A Reverse Address look-up (which i should've done to begin with) on whitepages.com / lists the address that I sent my $185 to as:

There is no Coty Templin listed in any white pages entry for St. Augustine, FL. Neither is there for any of the names of the people listed in the "Promotional Agreement" as being on the "Sexy Killer Records" label: Neil Fox, David Meaker, Dan Grover.

There is no Sexy Killer Records listed in florida in the whitepages.com database.

I feel i have been misled into sending money to a person posing as a record label. This is fraudulent and i would like to know what further action can be taken, as i'm sure others who have been in contact with this "Sexy Killer Records" would like to know as well. I will be attempting to get into contact with any such bands and get their stories. I will keep you posted.
