Vector Marketing - Cutco Knives
Misleading or flat out lies RIPOFF

Shops, Products, Services

Looking through the paper one day I came across an ad that promised $11/hr. And flexible hours with no prior training necessary. I called the office and, despite their refusal to tell me exactly what the company did, I went in for an "interview" anyway. The "interview" was actually just a bunch of college kids like myself herded into one big room while our district sales rep (or so he called himself) pounded how much money we stood to make into our heads without telling us much about how the company worked. I was told to come back the next day for a training session that would last upwards of 6 hours, which it did. Basically, Vector is hiring college kids to become private contractors for Cutco, but still taking a large portion of our profit. The "$11/hr" was actually $11 per appointment, which usually took about 2 hours each bringing the total to about $5.50/hr.

If this was not enough, we had to purchase our own set of the knives, running about $300. On top of all that, there was a required monthly meeting in Dallas we had to attend that cost about $250 each time. We were always told before these meetings that we would be getting some sort of knife set to complement our already existing display, but this was NEVER the case. I have also had friends who did not recieve their paychecks because one single line on one report was not filled out or didn't meet their exact specifications.

Instead of taking one of us aside and helping correct this, they simply didn't pay them. Cutco itself is an ok company, they make good on their free exchange/sharpening plans and the knives themselves are of decent quality, but Vector Marketing is one of the most deceitful institutions I have ever had the misfortune to be a part of. Oh, and don't expect to make any sort of real commission on your sales. I sold over $2,000 worth of knives one week (this was a total fluke) on about a 5% commission, but the paycheck itself was only made out for $132, or 12 appointments, which was exactly the number I had done that week. Where's my commission? As the "District Sales Rep" explained to me: "That money goes towards upgrading your status as a sales rep, thereby earning you a higher commission rate". This would be fine if they actually ever paid out the commission, but since they don't I basically made the DSR $100 that he didnt have to work for. Please don't be sucked into this horribly evil company like i was.
