JC Penney Styling Salon
Ripoff - caused severe chemical burns from relaxer Ripoff

I wish I had checked out JcPenney Styling Salon before going there on Sunday. I went in for a 1pm appt. On Sunday, and my stylist was late, arriving just a little after I did. I told her I was new to the salon and that I had put a relaxer in my hair about 4 weeks prior. I also mentioned that I had scratched my head a little. I brought her several pictures of a hairsytle I wanted. She said it would be no problem.

Basically what happened is, that she applied two jars of relaxer on my head, she was talking with another co-worker explaining to him how to apply the relaxer. I told her my head was burning on top. She sprayed oil sheen on it and told the co-worker, to use that, even the whole can, because that will cool down the head.By this time it was starting to really hurt and she said lets go rinse it out. She washed it, condition it, wrap it, and put me under a hot dryer.

It was going on after 3 pm, before she started to cut my hair. She took the pictures and put them up like she was using them as a guide. My head was down and I couldn't see what she was cutting. I kept seeing a lot of hair coming off and I mentioned it. She said it was going to look nice, spikey and chunky like I wanted. The co-worker came around again and said there sure is a lot of hair on the floor.

I still couldn't see what she was doing, so I kept quiet. Around 3:45 the girl at the front desk asked how long was she going to be with me because she had other people. She yelled back about 15 to 20 minutes to curl it then I'm done. She was really moving then. She sprayed my head down with spritz which burned and started curling, that's when I knew she had cut my hair too short. She kept burning my head with the curlers because the hair was so short. She told me the spritz was too sticky and was probably dripping hot on my scalp. She realized that she hadn't got my ticket together and went to go have it rang up.

A customer sitting next to me stated she didn't wasn her hair sticking up like mine. When I saw my hair, it was terrible, she cut it uneven and it was too short. But the stylists there kept saying it was cute, I felt pressureed and went to go pay. She then said she forgot to have me sign a form regarding chemical services. She said it was for insureance purporses, I signed and dated it.

They charged me $79 and I paid and left. I was walking to my car upset and I called my mother, who said just come home and maybe you can comb it into a cute style you like.

Well, I tried, but it was so stiff and sticky with spritz I couldn't comb it. I decided to rinse the spritz out and see what I could do with it. My head was really sore, so I dried my hair on a cool setting. After it dried, it looked like it never had a relaxer and it was cut totally uneven. My hair was dry, brittle, and very hard.

Today, I woke up and had large patches of burns and scabes all over the back of my head. I can't comb it, can't lay on it, it's just sticking up. I took pictures and called back to the salon and ask for a manager, I was told the manager wouldn't be in until Tuesday. But I could come in and they would see what they could do for me. From what I have read from previous complaints, I'm not holding out much hope. Anyone going through this please contact me, no one else should go through this.
