Ripoff Theft of belongings

The nightmare began on New Year's Eve 2004. Top Moving LLC arrived at my father's home in New Jersey to move 42 boxes and some antique furniture to Washington State.

After everything was loaded onto the truck and the papers signed, the moving foreman tried to extort a 15% cash gratuity from me which amounted to about $300. I did not have that kind of cash at home, so the foreman reluctantly took a check. After the movers left, I called Top Moving and reported what happened. The woman I spoke to, named Sandra, told me this was inappropriate and she was able to retrieve my check and return it to me. I was very concerned about the safety of my belongings and with very good reason.

It took Top Moving over 6 weeks to deliver my possessions to Washington. To compound things, my father was gravely ill at this time. My father subsequently passed away on March 16. I was able to slowly unpack my items in March and noticed that the Lionel Train set that my father gave to in the early 1960's was missing (with accessories). They were all packed in one box.

I put all the boxes in numerical order, however, I discovered that 3 boxes were missing. I notified Top Moving immediately and spoke with Sandra. She told me that everything had been delivered and signed for but she would check the warehouses and get back to me. She also informed me that I was entitled to 60 cents a pound for lost/damaged items. As expected, Sandra did not get back to me and my priceless train set along with some other items remain missing/stolen.

I would never recommend this mover to anyone and please be aware that there are thieves in their organization. I subsequently found another mover who moved additional things from my father's home in N.J. To Washington. There was absolutely no problem with this mover. Everything was delivered in about 10 days and all items have been accounted for.
