I hired Walt and Bart Miller of DTA Construction on 11-1 to finish a partially finshed basement. The basement had an unfinished bathroom, main room, under-stair storage closet and den with closet. The basement had already been drywalled in all rooms except the bathroom, but had not yet been textured and painted.

I requested the following be done to basement: Repair drywall, tape and smooth texture walls, rough texture ceiling, prime and paint walls and ceiling, this was to be done in the main room both closets and den and then finish out bathroom which only had stud walls. Also we were going to install a wet bar so I needed a sink drain and water.in the bid we also agreed on a tile entryway and tile floor in front of the bar.

Walt and Bart agreed the project would take about 3 weeks to complete and said the job would cost about $10000.00, plus I buy all the parts they would need.

After the first week, I could see they were not going to get done on time because they were not arriving to my house until around 8:30 am and were leaving before 2:30 pm. I talked to Walt about this and he blamed it on traffic.By this time, they had only started on the main room, nothing had been done in the bathroom or den.

At the end of the second week, I complained about the hours again and that I thought they were taking some liberties with my house while I was away. Frequently I found cups strewn about the basement, cigarette butts on the floor and the microwave had been used and allowed to boil over. I also pointed out quite a few problem areas where they had not painted or sanded the drywall.By this time they still had not started the bathroom but had completed the drywall repair. I pointed out numerous cracks in the drywall and places where it had not been sanded flush to the wall or ceiling.

At the end of the third week, I complained again about the hours they were keeping because they still had a lot to do in the way of cosmetics and the bathroom was still not complete. They said they would be back just prior to Thanksgiving to complete it. I took the opportunity after they left to perform a thorough inspection and pointed out all the areas that had problems so they could address them when they came back.

They came back and worked three days to get the main work done, but did not bother to touch the areas that I had pointed out. I called and Walt said they could not do anything over the holidays, but that they would be back to finish up. That was the last I ever saw of them.

I made repeated attempt to call and my phone messages were never returned. The one time I did get through, Walt made a comment that they were busy on another job and couldn't get to us right away. So now, I have a partially finished basement that cost me $10000.

Here is a list of the items they still need to complete or is a problem: Painting not finished, paint peeling and bubbling, drywall plaster not sanded, drywall plaster cracking, drywall plaster not finished, walls not prepared correctly prior to priming/painting, tile not finished, tile not set correctly, shower not installed correctly, shower modified outside of manufacturers specs, shower base not supported on floor, shower drain not installed correctly, shower plumbing installed in wrong location, shower door installed incorrectly, floor left in a condition unsuitable for tile, closet doors not installed to code, ceiling texture not uniform and is of poor quality, paint covering lights and fixtures, job cleanup not performed.
