Ripoff bogus UK charges, Texas

Just discovered the same bogus charges that everyone else has been talking about, on my SBC bill. 2 calls, one for 2 min, the other for 20 min, both to the UK. Totaling $50. I know alot of people have been scammed for much more money

Made several calls to the # listed, most of which were spent on a hold message that disconnects your call after saying that call volume is high.

When I got through, I tried to take the diplomatic, no-beating-around-the-bush approach, and asked USBI to please issue a credit for charges that I did not consent to verbally or in writing. I was then told that these calls were traced to my phone number, but they were actually calls made to an Internet site with a server based in the. When I pointed out that web access to a server doesn't work that way (with charges directly to your telephone provider) and also that there were numerous complaints about their company already, she acted like she didn't know what I was talking about and became very rude. I asked for the Form 499A and Registration #s as suggested on this site to report them to the FCC, she promptly responded, "I don't like your tone of voice and I don't have to take this from you!" and HUNG UP ON ME!

I am absoultely livid now, literally fuming, and judging from other posts, they seem to have caught on to the FCC complaint threat and aren't scared. I know alot of the people on their end could be innocent people, just doing what their scam artist bosses tell them, but how can we protect ourselves from this company? Please someone help!!
