Ripoff deceptive marketing

Recreation & Entertainment

Just like the other victim of YourFreeDVDs.com in this Rip-off database, I signed up for a service in order to get a "free" DVD, specifically the DVD for the movie 8-Mile. Here's what happened:

- Immediately, my YourFreeDVDs account said that I had to wait 30 days for the DVD points to process. There were enough points to get 8-Mile for free.

- About 1-2 weeks later, I got the credit report from the company that YourFreeDVDs is contracted with.

- Before the 30-day period was up, I checked my YourFreeDVDs account maybe twice, and both times it said that my DVD points were still pending confirmation of my service sign-up with the credit report company.

- After 30 days, about 45 days to be exact, when I logged into my account, the DVD points were gone and there was no trace of my signing up for the credit report service, which would have earned me DVD points.

- On the same day, I checked my credit card statement and saw that I had been billed a whopping $79.95 from the credit reporting service.

Had I known the credit reporting service would cost a whopping $79.95, or that I had to wait 30 days for the points to process, I would have never signed up in the first place.

This company uses deceptive advertising. There is nothing "free" about their service although the word "free" is used all over their website.

Ironically, I know the CEO of this company thru a friend and I'm going to give him a tongue-lashing. The only reason I even signed up for this stupid service was because I did know him thru a friend and I needed the free DVD for a birthday party. I had a feeling this whole bulls@#t would happen.

I wrote this report immediately after the last bullet point above, so I have not yet heard back from the CEO.

I'd be happy to let anybody who is interested know what becomes of this, since I do know the CEO thru two degrees of separation. Meanwhile, I'm contacting the credit reporting service tomorrow morning to dispute the $79.95 charge. Then if and when that does not work, I plan to call my credit card company to report the charge as fraud. Needless to say, the credit reporting company under contract with YourFreeDVDs.com never told me I'd be charged $79.95.
