Wisconsin has Publication 302 for Alcohol Beverage and Tobacco Retailers. They paint a very inviting picture that seems easy to accommodate. Rules and regulations that seem to be very reasonable and acceptable to any business person. However, what they do not reveal to you is their state statute 125.12 (2). Which basically states that if you should not subordinate yourself to the local police chief and/or other city officials you can be put out of business for any reason.

So, for the sake of simplicity, if you are not related to the police chief and the chiefs relative happens to be a competitor, well good luck! At that point you obviously are the proprietor of a disorderly or riotous, indecent or improper house! Any allegation made against you can stick. Any city can readily act as prosecutor, judge and jury! Once the allegation is made the evidence is created and it will cost you a major investment to fight the tax dollars of others!

In other words, never buy a liquor related business in Wisconsin! Well, the seller is offering financing so why not? Well, he only needs to make a couple of calls and you just lost your down payment!

It is a dog eat dog world folks! In Wisconsin anybody can be nobody real fast with a liquor establishment! If you are not connected with the good old boys stay out of this game in Wisconsin!
